30 year old, single writer and preacher, Jennifer AbubakarChiumbo preaches alongside her father, two days each week. Her spare time is spent with writing, and the main topic of her stories is Christian fiction. Having previously won a Young Christian Writer’s award she has another entry into the list again. She says that her father is her inspiration in living right and spreading the Word.
Dennis Williams, 64, is now semi-retired from preaching, but he still keeps his hand in by heading the Wednesday and Sunday services in church. His preaching has allowed him to travel to numerous places, from the Congo, to North America, Belgium, Spain, and Mexico. Jenifer and her mother, Thelma Williams travelled with him. Says Jenifer, “I also preach but prefer to spread the word of the Lord through writing. My fiction has a deep moral message, to young people. Following the ways of the devil will lead them to a life of misery. I show them that the Lord will be their only saviour but, I try to be subtle through use of language and prose, rather than blatant preaching in my books.”
If she wins, Jenifer says she will put some of the money toward helping poorer African communities in inner cities. The award winner, as well as enjoying the prestige, gets a book contract with a major publishing firm. They will also receive a prize of ten thousand pounds. Second place is five thousand. Jenifer states, “My writing is the best way for me to express myself and my beliefs. I love the work I do, both in preaching the Word and writing in His name, to guide young people on the path of righteousness.”
